Important Dates for 2023 term 1

Workshops - Saturday 30/7/22

The following workshops will be held on Saturday 30/7/22.

1) 42 Sword form (part 3) - Sifu Susan Berryman

Date and time:   Sat 30 July, 9am - 3pm

Location:           Balwyn Evergreen Centre, 45 Talbot Ave. Balwyn

Fee:                   $45 (TCG members), $50 (others)

In January 2020, Hong Kong Club Tai Chi Group ran part 1 of the 42 sword form workshop.  At that workshop, Sifu Susan Berryman taught the first half of the 42 sword form.  In July 2021, Susan conducted part 2 of the workshop which covered movements to about 3/4 of the form.  In this workshop, Susan will revise the sword form taught so far and will teach the rest of the 42 sword form.

The 42 Sword Form is an international standard routine created for competition. It combines elements of Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun style Taiji sword. Preference is given to those who have participated in the part 1 and 2 of the workshop and those who have learnt 42 bare hand form.  All participants should be experienced Tai Chi practitioners who are familiar with at least two styles of Taijiquan. All participants must complete a sword safety briefing before the workshop and strictly comply with sword safety requirements during the workshop.   This workshop should be considered to be an introduction to the 42 Sword Form only.  Ongoing practice and refinement is necessary to gain competency in this sword form.

2) Push Hand Exercise Workshop - Sifu Sam Au

Date and time:  Sat 30 July, 9am - 12 noon

Location:           Balwyn Evergreen Centre, 45 Talbot Ave. Balwyn

Fee:                  $30 (TCG members), $35 (others)

Push hand exercise can improve reflex, coordination, cooperation between partners, and, importantly, understanding of force and jing (application of power 懂勁).  In this workshop, Sam will introduce single hand and double hand push hand, variations to the standard push hand, stepping push hand, and the more advance Peng Lu Ji An push hand (掤捋擠按推手).  Other more advance push hand techniques may be introduced if time permits.

This workshop is suitable for beginners or experienced practitioners.

Start date of term 1 of 2022 is postponed to Saturday 5th March 2022

Dear members,

Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.  Also hope you have been keeping cool and hydrated during the hot weather.

We previously advised that the Committee would review the start day of Term 1, 2022 early in the new year due to the changing pandemic situation.  Although the daily cases seem to be stable and trending downward, for the welfare and safety of our members, the Committee decided to delay the term by one month.  Term 1 2022 will start on Saturday 5th March and finish on Saturday 30 July.

Taking into account the highly transmittable Omicron circulating at the moment, the Committee also decided not to use the class timetable sent to you in December.  The new timetable will be similar to the one adopted in 2021.

Timetable and registration details will be sent out in a separate email shortly.
